HARTLEPOOL UNITED’S players will be in for training on Sunday after they contrived to lose at Victoria Park to Bromley.

Pools lost 3-2 in front of their home fans, losing at Victoria Park for the second time this season.

And, with a clear week ahead before their next game at Chorley next weekend, Hignett will have his players in for a soul-searching session at the club’s training ground on Sunday.

The manager said: “We had some good performances and overall it was alright, but we haven’t won the game. It’s not going to carry on like this and we maybe we have to be less pleasing on the eye.

“We are in Sunday now, day off cancelled and we have a chat to voice opinions and I want an open and honest discussion. I look at the table now and teams are up there and why isn’t it us?

“Others are bothered about keeping the ball out of the net and not looking good – maybe they do it better than us, the simple things that is.’’

And Hignett backed his goalkeeper Ben Killip to come good after the summer signing conceded his tenth goals of the season in five games.

Killip was suspect for the final goal, as he hesitated in coming out of his six-yard box which gifted the visitors the winning goal on 75 minutes.

Hignett said: “Ben has had a real tough start, but we back our keeper. It will take come and he will get better with experience, but at the moment he’s being asked questions and it’s a bit intimidating for one or two players right now.

“Here you get 3,500 and when it’s not going your way it can be in your face and we all want the same thing.

“No-one is more disappointed than ne, but I feel I’ve a team who shouldn’t lose that game today.’’
