CRAIG HIGNETT feels he can be the manager to get the best out of Gime Toure.

The 25-year-old Frenchman moved to Hartlepool United from Sutton last month, his fifth club since arriving in England two years ago.

The powerful attacker adds a different option to Pools’ frontline and is likely to be involved in Pools’ final pre-season friendly at home to Macclesfield on Saturday afternoon.

And Hignett feels Toure has already showed enough on and off the pitch to indicate he can be a success at the club.

“You can see what he has got. He’s enthusiastic, raw at times and frustrating at times, but he’s got a new lease of life coming here,’’ mused Hignett.

“He’s mixed well, the lads love him and give someone with his ability that kind of love and confidence you will get something special out of him.

“He’s a size, powerful and quick with good close control and a sharp football brain – and then every now and again he will do something which makes you wonder why he’s done it…

“But I’ll take that because of what we can get out of him.

“I think I can get the best out of him. I look at people and with him, he’s been in England three seasons now.’’

Hignett accepts the player has stuttered a bit while he learned to speak English, but now he’s mastered the language, he is ready to go.

“He came from France and didn’t speak English,’’ added the manager. “Wrexham wanted him, ended up at Macclesfield, in and out, no one could speak to him so he was an outsider.

“He went to Fylde, been there two minutes and went to Sutton – 27 games and nine goals. He needs a home and someone to believe in him. You can see the ability he has got. Watch his clips… .I saw him for Fylde against us and then at Sutton where he gave Ryan Donaldson a tough time.

“He’s got something we don’t have. But if you get him going and consistently then he’s a handful.’’

Hignett spotted his potential first hand when he netted for Sutton against Pools last season and he took note of his ability until he landed him.

He added: “I saw him and spotted him, I won’t take a decision based on a video of an agent with all his best bits on. I saw him play and then watched the game back afterwards to see what he did overall. I watch him myself and see his ability.

“He’s not misunderstood, but he’s not mixed well before because of the language but he speaks English now and he’s struck up a good friendship with Liam Noble – which is worrying!

“Get him going and he can be a real asset, different to what we have had and we have a lot more power, pace and height in the side which is what we set out to do. I won’t sacrifice the football side and go route one, but it’s nice to be able to mix it up.’’
