DARLINGTON golfer Andrew Wilson has secured a place at this month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush after winning the qualifying tournament at Notts Hollinwell Golf Club.

Wilson, who is affiliated to Rockliffe Hall, posted a score of seven under par courtesy of back-to-back rounds of 69 and 68.

That enabled him to finish a shot clear of the field, with amateur Thomas Thurloway and Ashton Turner claiming the other qualifying spots on offer at the Nottinghamshire course.

Wilson will now enjoy the biggest week of his golfing life as he prepares to head to Northern Ireland to rub shoulders with the best players in the world.

Wilson, who will warm up for the Open by competing in the PGA EuroPro Tour Motocaddy Masters at Linden Hall in Northumberland, is enjoying a successful season on the EuroPro Tour.

He has made the final day of three tournaments so far this season, and posted a second-place finish at the recent IFX Payments Championship.
