SUNDERLAND will kick off the new League One season with a home game against Oxford United.

Jack Ross’ side will start their 2019-20 campaign at the Stadium of Light, with Oxford due to visit on Saturday, August 3.

The club’s first away game of the new season takes them to Portman Road the following weekend to take on an Ipswich Town side that were relegated from the Championship last month.

Sunderland’s second home game is a rematch of last season’s play-off semi-final, with Portsmouth visiting Wearside on August 17, and the opening month of the campaign ends with matches against Rochdale, AFC Wimbledon and Peterborough United.

September features back-to-back matches against relegated sides, with Sunderland taking on Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers in the space of four days, while the trip to Lincoln City, who were promoted from League Two last season, is scheduled for October 5.

Sunderland host another of the promoted teams, Tranmere Rovers, on October 22, and head to Bury on December 21.

The Black Cats are at home on Boxing Day, with Bolton heading to the Stadium of Light, and head to Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium for the final game of 2019 on December 29.

2020 begins with a New Year’s Day trip to Fleetwood Town, with Sunderland’s first home game of the new year seeing them host Lincoln on January 4.

The Black Cats head to Fratton Park for their second game against Portsmouth on February 1, and are due to visit Blackpool on March 14.

Their final home game of the season sees Accrington Stanley visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday, April 25.

The campaign ends with a trip to Rotherham’s New York Stadium for a midday kick-off on Sunday, May 3.
