SPENNYMOOR have secured the return of a club legend, while tying two others to new deals.

Gavin Cogdon has returned to the Brewery Field after his release from South Shields, signing a one-one contract.

And boss Jason Ainsley has also added centre-half Scott Harrison and attacker Ryan Hall to the squads for next season after agreeing contracts.

Cogdon played an integral part in Moors’ rise from the Northern League to National League North, netting 132 goals in 289 appearances for the club during a trophy-laden stint from 2009 to 2016.

He admitted: “As soon as I spoke to Jason I knew it was a club I instantly wanted to come back to.

“I’ve looked at Spennymoor while I’ve been away and I have seen the massive strides the club has been taking. I can’t wait to get started.

“My first spell here was great, but it’s about looking at the here and now. Spennymoor are in a different position than when I was previously here, and I want to help take them to another level.”

Ainsley added: “Gavin has been a massive part of the growth of the club. We talk about the journey of Spennymoor Town, and he has been a major part of that.

“He is probably fitter now than he ever has been, so to sign him on a one-year deal was a no brainer.

“He has scored some big goals during his time at South Shields and I just think he will frighten the life out of defenders, either from the bench or from the start.’’

Harrison, the former Darlington and Hartlepool United defender, moved on loan from Falkirk during last season and agreed a pay-off from his contract in Scotland.

Ainsley said: “Scott is a leader who was an integral part of the run at the end of the season. He is a real physical presence.

“He needs to be fitter but he knows that. He is a top local lad and we are expecting big things from him next season.”
