How did the players fare in Sunderland's 5-4 home defeat to Coventry City?
SUNDERLAND (4-4-2):
5 McLaughlin: Shipped five goals, but wasn’t at fault for any of them and made a fine late save to prevent Sunderland conceding a sixth
3 O’Nien: Started badly as his errant pass set up Coventry’s opener and failed to turn his afternoon around after that
3 Baldwin: All over the place defensively and simply could not cope with the pace and movement of the Coventry attack
2 Flanagan: Committed a series of individual errors that proved costly – his place has to be under threat for Friday’s game with Doncaster
5 Oviedo: Shaky defensively as he failed to get close enough to his opponent, but set up two goals with his crosses
5 Honeyman: Opened the scoring with a deflected strike, but wasn’t able to exert any control in the midfield area
4 Leadbitter: Repeatedly found himself engulfed as Coventry broke in numbers, with his lack of pace an obvious issue
5 Power: Scored with a second-half strike, but didn’t seem to know whether to push forward or drop deep
5 Morgan: Caused some problems as he broke down the left-hand side, but didn’t offer much defensive support to Oviedo
8 WYKE: Sunderland’s best player by a distance as he claimed a goal and an assist – won just about everything in the air
6 Grigg: Stabbed home his fifth Sunderland goal from close range and is clearly enjoying playing alongside Wyke
Subs:
6 McGeady (for Grigg, 64): Wasn’t fit enough to start, but set up Power’s goal and made a difference when he came on
4 Sterling (for Leadbitter, 64): His rawness was all too obvious as he passed up possession on a number of occasions
Kimpioka (for Morgan, 83)
(not used): Ruiter (gk), Hume, Dunne, Cattermole.
COVENTRY (4-2-3-1):
Burge 3; Sterling 5, Davies 4, Hyam 3, Mason 4; Shipley 6, Kelly 5; Thomas 7 (Wakefield 76), ENOBAKHARE 9 (Chaplin 76), Hiwula 8 (Westbrooke 89); Bakayoko 8.
Subs (not used): Brown, Ponticelli, Addai, Williams.
Man Of The Match: BRIGHT ENOBAKHARE – The Wolves loanee was just about unplayable for most of the game – on this evidence, he should be playing at a much higher level than League One.
