MIDDLESBROUGH'S Riverside Stadium will be renamed The Captain James Cook Stadium for one game later this month.
Boro’s home ground will be rebranded in honour of the town's most famous son for one day only.
The Championship fixture with leaders Norwich City will celebrate what is going about the Tees Valley during the televised match on Saturday, March 30 at 5.30pm.
The Captain James Cook Stadium was the popular choice in an on-line poll.
It came out on top ahead of The Endeavour Stadium, The Discovery Stadium and Resolution, the names of ships used on Cook’s epic voyages. Cook was born in Marton and to school in Great Ayton.
The brief rebranding will be part of a cultural celebration in conjunction with Enjoy Tees Valley.
The renamed stadium will be have 25,000 red and white flags for fans and local band Cattle and Cane will play Teesside-inspired song Infant Hercules beforehand.
There will also be a Tees Valley-themed FanZone, where the Rugby League World Cup trophy will be on display.
