Steven Chapman and Will Gidman have been added to the backroom staff at Durham Cricket.

Both former players of the county, Chapman joins as batting and spin bowling consultant as part pf the revamped coaching set-up, while Gidman is the assistant Academy coach.

Chapman, who appeared in three first-class and three List A matches for the club in 1998/99, will work with Durham’s batsmen & spinners alongside his role as director of coaching at South Northumberland CC. He has been operating a successful academy in Australia.

He was assistant and batting coach with IPL side Gujarat Lions in 2017 and worked with the Academy side at Durham in 2007 on an interim basis.

He has also worked in Director of Cricket roles for a number of Australian clubs and owned his own successful coaching business.

Gidman will work with the Academy under the direction of current Academy manager John Windows.

He made his first-class debut for Durham and also enjoyed spells at Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire and Kent before retiring at the end of last season.

Chapman will be with the squad during the pre-season tour of South Africa, with the squad setting off today.
