HARTLEPOOL UNITED have added to their squad today with another new signing.

After Fraser Kerr moved from Gateshead last week, and was soon followed by midfielder Gavan Holohan, boss Craig Hignett has signed David Edgar, the ex-Newcastle United centre-half on a deal until the end of the season.

Edgar has been training with Pools and has signed until the end of the campaign. His dad, Eddie, was a popular goalkeeper with Pools in the 70s.

Edgar has been playing in Canada, where he was born, for three years and has been capped by his country.

He has been given international clearance to play against Dover on Saturday.

Pools, however, are still waiting on international clearance from the Irish FA for Holohan.

Speaking at this morning's press conference before the deal was completed Hignett said: “I expect signings all the time! We are hoping to get one over the line today.

“Maybe today, but a lot depends on international clearance and some federations are quicker than others and getting a couple in this season would help us for next season.

“We got Fraser Kerr in last week and I felt he was excellent on his debut last weekend for his first game, and a great lad around the place. We want players who know the league and are good characters and I would sacrifice a bit of quality for a good character because we are going to need characters and a good spirit next season.’’

Luke Williams had been in full training with the squad after recovering from a knee injury, but remains a few weeks away from a first-team call.
