TWELVE months after North-East football fans rallied round to help save Hartlepool United, the club has introduced a ticket offer as a thank-you.

Pools took on Wrexham last year when almost 8,000 fans turned up to show their support in the hour of need.

When Pools take on the Dragons at the Super 6 Stadium on March 23, admission prices have been reduced.

The day was known as “Save Pools Day” and the income generated went a long way to keeping the club afloat before the takeover by Raj Singh was instigated and completed.

Manager Craig Hignett, who was part of Singh’s team at the time of the takeover, said: “What happened at the Wrexham game last season was massive in terms of the takeover that followed.

“I always knew what special supporters we had at the football club but the way fans of other clubs in this region and from outside the area, including Wrexham, stood by the club in that hour of need was nothing short of amazing.

“It seems fitting that when Wrexham return to Hartlepool we pay tribute to the extraordinary efforts from everyone involved, not just in coming to the game but in the fundraising that went alongside that.

“That Never Say Die spirit is something we pride ourselves on here at Pools and it’s never been more evident that during that period so hopefully this ticket offer can help give a little bit back to recognise everyone who played their part.”

  • Tickets, priced at £10 and £5 concessions, under-16s £2 are available from the club ticket office and through the online ticketing website.
