SPENNYMOOR pulled off another excellent victory on their travels when they won 2-0 at Altrincham’s Moss Lane last night.

Moors have played some great football on their travels this season, but they have also defended well, and they were forced to do so last night, but with new signing Scott Harrison prominent, they held on for their ninth away league win of the season.

Mark Anderson was the matchwinner, scoring one and setting up the other for Rob Ramshaw, to keep them in third place, within four points of the top of the table.

Altrincham created the first chance of the game, with an effort by Joe Piggott that was beaten away by Moors keeper Mattie Gould.

The home side then had loud appeals for a penalty turned down when James Jones claimed he was fouled as he went for a corner, but the referee waved play on.

Moors had their first chance on 17 minutes when Jamie Chandler and Callum Williams combined well for Glen Taylor to head over the bar.

However, Altrincham created a chance for themselves when Andy White charged through and fired just wide of the post.

Altrincham looked the more likely to break the deadlock and forced several corners and free kicks, but Moors defended well and stunned them by taking the lead on 38 minutes when Mark Anderson picked the ball up on the edge of the area, and beat Altrincham keeper Steven Drench with an excellent shot.

Moors thought they’d scored again just on half time, but Taylor was flagged offside.

Moors had a let off at the start of the second half when Piggott got through and Gould just managed to get his fingertips to the ball, which rebounded back off the bar.

But once again Moors bounced back under pressure on 63 minutes, this time when Anderson opened up the defence for Rob Ramshaw to knock past the keeper.

And it was nearly three when Johnson had a low shot saved by the keeper.

The second goal enabled to take firmer control of the game, and they snuffed out Altrincham’s attacks, which had been more effective in the opening stages of the game.
