GLEN DURRANT claimed his maiden PDC title at the weekend as he triumphed in the Players Championship Four in Wigan.
The Teesside tungsten star was in fine form all day, and added to his name to the list of PDC winners as he beat Dimitri van den Bergh 8-3 in the final.
It was a second ProTour final in a week for the three-time BDO World champion, who followed up the previous weekend’s final defeat to Dave Chisnall with a debut Premier League appearance in Glasgow.
A dominant start in this weekend’s final saw Durrant race into a 3-0 lead, and while van den Bergh steadied the ship with a 13-dart leg, the Middlesbrough thrower claimed a 12-dart break of throw before taking out a 76 checkout to win the £10,000 first prize.
“That is as good as it gets, it's a wonderful feeling,” said Durrant. “To showcase my talents - I have just had the best two weeks. I am now a PDC champion, and I am ecstatic.”
Durrant’s performance of the day came in the semi-finals as he stunned Gerwyn Price 7-3 with a colossal 109.3 average. His run to the title also featured victories over Jamie Lewis, Joe Cullen and Mensur Suljovic.
