Goal:
1-0: Son (83, shifted the ball out of his feet and struck a low, dipping shot that keeper Dubravka should have saved)
Booking: Yedlin (63, foul)
Referee: Andre Marriner (Walsall): Nothing to get involved with or be concerned with throughout a rather tame encounter 7
Attendance: 41,219
Entertainment: 2/5
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (4-3-3): Lloris 6; Tripper 6, Vertonghen 7, Alderweireld 6, Sanchez 6; Winks 7, Sissoko 6, Eriksen 6; Lamela 5 (Rose 78), Moura 4 (Llorente 60, 5), SON 7 (Dier 89).
Subs (not used): Gazzaniga, Foyth, Walker-Peters, Dier, Wanyama.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (5-4-1)
3 Dubravka: His safe handling and assured display in the penalty area was forgotten about after conceding meekly;
6 Yedlin: Offered some width on the right and put over some inviting balls into the area, none more so than the one for Rondon to head against the post
6 Schar: Goalline clearances were key to keeping the Magpies in the game, but a first-half lapse when he played on two attackers could be been costly
7 Lascelles: Generally in the right place at the right time to get in the way of the endless Spurs attacks
6 Lejeune: Part of a back five which defended a stout line in and around their penalty area
6 Ritchie: Defending deep at left back and never really got much chance to plough forward and contribute to attacks;
5 Perez: The odd little spark, but generally spent his time looking at the game from the outside without getting his hands dirty
5 Longstaff: Newcastle were always second best in this department and the prospect never made the sort of impact he did against Man City last week
5 Hayden: Worked away in trying to close down the opposition but this was about keeping discipline and shape than anything else;
6 Atsu: His pace and mobility could have been a key asset in playing on the counter attack, although too often he didn’t get the chance to link up and support Rondon
6 Rondon: Left alone and isolated more often than not and the game wasn’t played in his favour.
Subs:
Barreca (for Ritchie 86)
Kenedy (for Atsu 82)
(not used): Woodman, Manquillo, Clark, Fernandez, Joselu.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Heung-Min Son – his clever touch and shot proved the difference between the sides, but he was always lively.
