JACK ROSS is waiting to discover the extent of the ankle injury suffered by transfer target Will Grigg.

Wigan’s Northern Ireland striker is wanted by Sunderland during this month’s transfer window – and Ross has tabled three bids.

But Grigg was forced off during the Latics’ defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, leaving any possible move in the balance.

“Any move would depend on the players’ fitness and I can’t comment on that as he’s not my player and I wasn’t at the game,’’ said Ross this morning.

“I’ve been fairly consistent in not commentating on other players. Paul (Cook) has spoke at the weekend so it’s fairly obvious we have made a bid for him.

“He’s a player we would like to bring to the club and we have nine or ten days to try and bring him to the club and that’s something we would like to happen.’’

Latics boss Cook said: “Griggy’s rolled his ankle quite bad. Will’s is poor, it looks like it won’t be a very good injury...we’ll just have to wait and see.’’
