6 Flanagan: Kept a cool head in the heat of battle and showed fine positional sense and impressive distribution from the back

6 Dunne: Relished the physical battle with Scuthorpe target-man Wootton in a no-holds-barred contest

7 James: Impeccable defensive display from the full-back, who also proved his worth at the other end with a telling centre for Maja's goal  

6 Power: Solid defensive display but often let down by the final pass when looking to orchestrate attacking moves

6 Cattermole: Far from pretty from the skipper, but largely effective down in the trenches

6 Gooch: Became more of an influence as the contest wore on and always a threat going forward 

4 Maguire: Went to ground far too easily and unsurprisingly substituted early in the second half after an ineffective display

5 McGeady: Tried his luck down both flanks to little effect on a frustrating afternoon for the Irishman

7 Maja: Had been largely anonymous before pouncing for his 16th goal of the season on the unsettled forward's return from illness

MAN OF THE MATCH: JON McLAUGHLIN - Crucial saves in both halves from the Sunderland keeper looked to have laid the foundation for victory until substitute Adam Hammill's unstoppable late leveller
