How did the players fare in Sunderland's draw at Scunthorpe?

SCUNTHORPE (4-1-3-2):

Alnwick 7; McMahon 6, McArdle 7, Burgess 5, Borthwick-Jackson 6; Perch 6; Sutton 6 (van Veen 74), THOMAS 7 (Lund 85), Ojo 7 (Hammill 74); Wootton 4, Novak 4.

Subs (not used): Flatt (gk), Webster, Lewis, McGahey.

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

8 McLAUGHLIN: Kept Sunderland in it with three vital first-half saves in addition to a stunning late stop from Perch

O'Nien: Again played his part in a largely impressive rear-guard action from the visitors, who came under spells of sustained pressure

Flanagan: Kept a cool head in the heat of battle and showed fine positional sense and impressive distribution from the back

Dunne: Relished the physical battle with Scuthorpe target-man Wootton in a no-holds-barred contest

James: Impeccable defensive display from the full-back, who also proved his worth at the other end with a telling centre for Maja's goal

6 Power: Solid defensive display but often let down by the final pass when looking to orchestrate attacking moves

Cattermole: Far from pretty from the skipper, but largely effective down in the trenches

Gooch: Became more of an influence as the contest wore on and always a threat going forward

4 Maguire: Went to ground far too easily and unsurprisingly substituted early in the second half after an ineffective display

5 McGeady: Tried his luck down both flanks to little effect on a frustrating afternoon for the Irishman

Maja: Had been largely anonymous before pouncing for his 16th goal of the season on the unsettled forward's return from illness

Subs:

6 Wyke (for Maguire 53): Posed an aerial threat Sunderland had largely lacked before the forward's introduction

Watmore (for Maja 72)

(not used): Ruiter (gk), Matthews, Oviedo, McGeouch, Baldwin.

MAN OF THE MATCH: JON McLAUGHLIN - Crucial saves in both halves from the Sunderland keeper looked to have laid the foundation for victory until substitute Adam Hammill's unstoppable late leveller
