How did the players fare in Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw with Millwall?

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-1-4-1):

7 RANDOLPH: Had no chance with Wallace’s goal and made an excellent point-blank save from Gregory in the first half

5 Fry: His limitations as a full-back were exposed as Boro desperately needed someone to provide some natural width

6 Ayala: His defensive performance improved as the game wore on, and he drew the foul from Morison that resulted in a penalty

5 Batth: Got the nod ahead of Flint, although he will almost certainly find himself replaced once his fellow centre-half is fully fit

6 Friend: Became more of an attacking presence in the second half, although he wasn’t able to get on the overlap as he would have liked

5 Clayton: Struggled to prevent Millwall’s players breaking forward in the first half, and was sacrificed in the half-time reshuffle

5 Howson: Playing in a wide position doesn’t suit him – found himself regularly looking to shuffle inside

6 Wing: Was Boro’s brightest midfield player for most of the game, and tested Archer with a decent second-half strike

4 Besic: Has looked completely out of sorts for a quite a while now and failed to offer any kind of an attacking threat

5 Saville: Another player who doesn’t really suit a position on the flank – wasn’t really a factor against his former employers

6 Hugill: Kept plugging away despite little or no service, and held his nerve impressively to roll home his 90th-minute spot-kick

Subs:

7 Van La Parra (for Clayton, 46): Added some pace and direct running after he was introduced – will start against Newport this weekend

5 Assombalonga (for Howson, 61): Suffered from a lack of service in the closing stages, but surely has to start again soon

6 Downing (for Besic, 69): His crossing ability told as he delivered the last-minute centre that resulted in Boro’s penalty

(not used): Konstantopoulos (gk), Flint, McNair, Fletcher.

MILLWALL (4-3-3):

Archer 6; Romeo 6, Cooper 6, Hutchinson 7, M Wallace 6; Thompson 7, Williams 6, Leonard 6; J WALLACE 8 (O’Brien 88), Gregory 7 (Morison 80), Marshall 7 (Ferguson 72).

Subs (not used): Martin (gk), Onyedinma, Pearce, Tunnicliffe.

Man Of The Match: JED WALLACE – Scored Millwall’s goal and caused problems whenever he broke forward down the right-hand side.
