Spennymoor Town 4 Barwell 0.

It’s back to normal service for Moors after they advanced into the second round of the Buildbase FA trophy with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Barwell on Saturday.

Moors were way below their best when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Stockport in the league in midweek, but they had plenty in hand when they beat the EvoStik League South outfit with plenty to spare.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “We decided to freshen things up for Saturday’s game, and the lads who came in did very well.

“Mark Anderson has waited patiently for a starting place, and he took his goals well – especially his second one from long distance -- while Ryan Hall was always a handful.

“We played very well in atrocious conditions – they weren’t easy at all for the players especially when they were facing the wind and rain. We scored some very good goals.

“It was a professional performance and the important thing is, that we are delighted to be in the hat for the next round.

“We’d love to have a home tie - -we don’t mind whom we play. We’re determined to have a good run in the Trophy like last season, and we feel that we can give anyone a tough game at home.”

Moors nearly took the lead in the opening minutes when Anderson sent Ryan Hall through, but the Barwell keeper Liam Castle blocked his shot and Glen Taylor put the loose ball over the bar.

Anderson had another effort well blocked before Moors took the lead on 26 minutes when Hall got away down the right and crossed perfectly for Taylor to come in and head his 16th goal of the season.

Barwell hit back and nearly levelled through Jahvan Davidson-Miller, but Moors keeper Mattie Gould did well to push away his effort, and then just after half time Brad Gascoigne struck the post.

Moors gave themselves some breathing space on 51 minutes when Rob Ramshaw set up Taylor to knock the ball in from a couple of yards.

Barwell lost their composure and had two men booked for fouls before Moors went 3-0 up on 65 minutes when Castle blocked Hall’s shot, but Anderson was there to slot the ball home.

And it was 4-0 on 76 minutes when sub Adam Boyes broke away and was denied by Castle, but Anderson cracked in the loose ball first time from 35 yards out.

The draw for the last 32 is at lunchtime today.
