SPENNYMOOR TOWN’S six-game unbeaten run came to an end when they were beaten at home by Stockport County.

After the highs of thumping Hednesford and Alfreton, Moors produced one of their worst first 45 minutes of the season against a packed Stockport defence, who stuck five rigidly across the back, and they never really recovered.

Mattie Warburton’s shooting accuracy let him down three times in the first 20 minutes, but he finally got a shot on target on 35 minutes that was the game’s opening goal for Stockport.

He picked up a through ball from Jordan Keane, ran into the box, and hit a powerful right foot shot out of keeper Matthew Gould’s reach into the net.

Moors created their first chance of the game on 40 minutes, when Adam Boyes headed a left wing cross just wide of the post.

But Stockport went 2-0 up four minutes before half time. Curtis was penalised for a foul 25 yards out, Warburton dummied the free kick and Sam Walker curled the ball around the wall, with Gould appearing to be unsighted on his line.

Andrew Johnson curled the ball just wide of the upright from the left on the resumption, but Stockport always looked dangerous on the break, and Mulhern forced Gould into a save low down to his right on 57 minutes.

Midfielder Rob Ramshaw tried to spark Moors into life, and he struck a deflected right foot shot just wide from the edge of the box, and then another effort into the hands of keeper Ben Hinchliffe.

Moors pulled a badly-needed goal back on 70 minutes, when Glen Taylor was fouled five yards outside the box, and Stephen Brogan delightfully curled the ball beyond Hinchliffe into the net.

A minute later Taylor nearly equalised, but Hinchliffe deflected his low shot wide of the post. Walker was dismissed for his second yellow for an incident.

But Stockport regained control and nearly got another with a low shot by Elliott Osbourne that flew past the post and in the last minute of stoppage time, Nyal Bell broke clear, rounded Gould, and tapped in the third.
