HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-2-3-1):

7 Loach: Made saves when he had to, and he kept Pools in contention, but he’s playing behind a porous defence;

6 Richardson: Started nervy, appearing to lack the confidence he has displayed in recent weeks

5 Magnay: Committed and battled, but fought a losing battle against one of the division’s top strikers

4 Anderson: Never the dominant central defender he looks like he should be – beaten for pace on occasions

5 Kitching: Wing-back or left back? Probably more suited to the latter and he looks happier starting from a deeper position;

4 Featherstone: Busy in the middle, but Pools needed more in the engine room than just that

4 McLaughlin: Started as captain, but ran of ideas alongside Featherstone and replaced when Pools went with two up top;

7 Donaldson: Too often looks like the one Pools player with some drive and a willingness to attack the opposition

6 Hawkes: Lively and tried to get forward, while never scared to try and find a shooting chance, but tired second-half

6 Newton: Ran, harassed, closed down and was replaced as Pools opted to go with two strikers up top;

6 James: Needed support from deep and in the main he got it as he kept going all night.

Subs:

Noble (for McLaughlin 61): Scored the penalty to get Pools back into it 5

O’Neill (for Newton 65): Little impact when pitched up top alongside James 5

Muir (for Hawkes 79)

(not used): Kioso, Butler.

FYLDE: Lynch 7; Francis-Angol 6, Byrne 7, Tunnicliffe 7, Bond 6, Croasdale 5 (Brewitt 89), Philliskirk 7, Burke 8, Toure 6 (Gnahoua 66, 6), Haughton 7 (Hemmings 75), ROWE 8. Subs (not used): Tasdemir, Williams.

MAN OF THE MATCH DANNY Rowe – always a threat up front
