SUNDERLAND have been successful in getting Max Power's weekend red card rescinded after lodging an appeal.

The midfielder was sent-off at Walsall on Saturday, when the Black Cats came back from two down to draw 2-2.

After his third red card of the season, Power was facing a five-game suspension starting with tomorrow’s home game with Barnsley.

But the Black Cats today submitted their appeal, which has been granted.

Speaking at the Academy of Light this afternoon before the FA delivered its verdcit, Ross said: “We have submitted the appeal – we had to by 1pm today. The appeal is heard this afternoon so we should know the outcome before close of business today.

“My gut reaction at the time was that it was harsh – and after watching it back again it’s very easy to see it again quickly after the game and my reaction was the same.

“I’ve watched it from so many different angles and he was dismissed for serious foul play. Watching it back strengthens my view that it was not a straight red card.

“We would not have submitted the appeal for the sake of it – it was done because we feel it was unjust and we will see what this afternoon brings.’’

Duncan Watmore will tonight make his comeback from injury for the club’s Under-23s against Middlesbrough at Eppleton CW (7pm).

The attacker has suffered two cruciate knee ligament injuries, and has been sidelined for 12 months.
