SPENNYMOOR TOWN made light work of Halesowen by marching into the next round of the FA Trophy with a comprehensive 8-2 win.

Jason Ainsley’s promotion chasers took a break from national League North action to start what they hope will be a run in the Trophy, a competition in which they reached the quarter-finals last season.

And on this evidence at the Brewery Field there is every chance that Spennymoor could again go far on the road to Wembley.

Adam Boyes scored a hat-trick during a remarkable first half that ended 6-2, despite Halesowen twice taking the lead.

Danny Bragoli made it 1-0 to the visitors on seven minutes, but Boyes quickly levelled, only for Halesowen to soon go ahead again, this time when striker Lewis Reilly beat Matt Gould for 2-1.

But two goals inside three minutes turned the game on its head from which point Moors did not look back.

On 22 minutes Rob Ramshaw fired Moors’ second equaliser, and it was 3-2 when Andrew Johnson and Glen Taylor combined to tee up Boyes to side-foot home from 12 yards for 3-2.

Boyes added the next goal, and also on target before the break were Taylor and Shaun Tuton.

Almost inevitably there fewer goals in the second half, with the contest effectively over enabling Spennymoor to coast through the second 45 minutes.

Striker Alex Kempster, a recent signing on loan from York City, came off the bench, replacing Taylor, and soon after his introduction was felled inside the Halesowen penalty area, but the referee took pity on the battered visitors and played on.

Spennymoor’s seventh strike came on 85 minutes, an own goal by Kieran Morris who completed nightmare day when he was sent off moments later, before Ramshaw completed the scoring on a memorable day.

He got the eighth with his second of the game, sliding a low shot from the edge of the area past goalkeeper Gregory.
