RAFA BENITEZ has admitted that Paul Dummett will definitely miss Monday night’s trip to Burnley with a hamstring problem.

The left-back had to withdraw from the Wales team against Denmark a week ago and then missed the second game of the break against Albania.

He has been monitored this week but Benitez has confirmed that Dummett will not travel to Turf Moor, so other options are being considered.

Benitez will be assessing Jonjo Shelvey, Jamaal Lascelles and Yoshinori Muto over the weekend to determine whether they can figure against the Clarets.

“Paul is not available, he has been treated and we will see how he gets on during the next week,” said the Newcastle boss. “He will miss this game with a hamstring injury from national team.

“Jamie Sterry and Florian Lejeune are not available, but Lejeune has been training with the team. We don’t want to take a risk yet.

“Shelvey, Muto and Lascelles have not competed a full training session yet, we will see how they are in next two sessions. One or two maybe available, even if not start. The only one who is not available for sure is Dummett.”

Newcastle went into the international break on the back of two successive wins, their first of the season. In many respects they could have done with the games continuing rather than interruption.

Benitez said: “Sometimes when you are doing well the break can be bad timing, and injuries can help you recover at other times.

"But it is a long distance race, we have been walking, then running and now hopefully we can sprint.

“More than confidence it is the better the mood because we were training well without winning, every time I did a press conference I was saying that but not winning.

"The players are happier, it would be easier to send the message across when we are winning.

“Burnley are quite strong at home even if they have lost against some of the best teams in the Premier League. It will be a tough game no matter how we are doing or they are.

“They will try to get three points against us because we are close in the table. The difference is not too big in the Premier League at the bottom of the table, you have to try to get three points.”
