SPENNYMOOR manager Jason Ainsley says that Moors want to emulate last season’s FA Trophy run when Halesowen come to the Brewery Field this afternoon – and he has brought in Alex Kempster from York City to help them.

Moors pulled off some great results last season until they went out in a quarter final replay to Bromley, and Ainsley says that they want better that achievement this season.

“We want another good run in the Trophy especially as we went out of this season’s FA Cup so early,” he said.

“Last year’s Trophy run was a great experience, but unfortunately it ended on a sour note when we lost to Bromley.

“Halesowen will be a tough team to beat. Just like all teams from the Black Country, they work their socks off all the way through each game. We must make home advantage count, we don’t want to put ourselves in a situation in which we have to travel a long distance in midweek. We drew at home with East Thurrock last season, and had to travel for a replay on a Tuesday.”

Moors go into the game in great form, unbeaten in their last four matches, and Ainsley said; “When you look at our overall performances, they have been very good this season, I could count on the fingers of one hand when I’ve felt disappointed with the players.

“But we must make sure we don’t take victory for granted, we must make sure that we are properly prepared for them – there’ll be no excuses.

“We’ve had Halesowen watched, and it’s important that we’re ready from the very first minute.”

Moors yesterday completed the loan signing of former Whitley Bay striker Kempster from York City for two months, and Ainsley said; “We are delighted that Alex has chosen to come here on loan. He has been unfortunate at York to not be playing more games as he started the season very well, but hopefully that will be our gain over the next two months.

“Alex can play anywhere across the front line and will bring competition in a busy period coming up.”

Defender Stephen Brogan is ruled out because of his harsh dismissal for two yellow cards last week at Guiseley, while centre half James Curtis is struggling through injury.

Halesowen are currently sixth from bottom of the EvoStik League Southern Premier, but have beaten Grantham and Prescot Cables to get to this stage – their win at Grantham was an impressive 4-0 margin.

They include former West Brom striker Lee Hughes in their squad, but yesterday the club announced that manager John Hill will be leaving the club by mutual consent next week Elsewhere in the Trophy, Marske United are hoping to pull off a shock at Blyth Spartans, while South Shields go to Stratford.
