ACHRAF LAZAAR is determined to work hard throughout his time at Newcastle United in the hope of landing a fresh chance from Rafa Benitez.

Lazaar has been training with the Under-23s this season and hasn't even been playing full matches at that level recently.

It is a situation that must be frustrating for the left-back, who has struggled to break into Benitez's side since moving from Palermo.

An injury to Paul Dummett, who had to miss Wales' game with Albania because of a problem he picked up against Denmark on Friday, has opened the door down that flank again ahead of Monday's trip to Burnley.

Benitez has other options to cover for Dummett, with Javier Manquillo, Kenedy, Ciaran Clark or Fabian Schar all capable.

Lazaar, who saw a summer move to Genoa back down, told tuttomercatoweb: “I'm training hard and I also do some training to be ready and fit.

“I'm honest: I signed for Newcastle and I expect to be taken into consideration.

“But football is like that, something wrong can happen.

“But you must continue to do your job by respecting the choices.

“Do not give up. Then in January if a call comes in I have to be ready.”
