ANDREW DAVIES accepts Hartlepool United can’t head to Wrexham tonight with any hangover from the weekend.

Pools lost 3-2 at home to Sutton on Saturday, shipping two goals to throw away a winning position.

Tonight’s opponents are above Pools in the National League table and Davies is hoping for a positive response.

“Conditions weren’t great on Saturday, but they were better than us. We lost, it is what it is, but it’s a long season,’’ said the captain.

“We haven’t won enough games at home, I’ve only come here this season and the crowd has been good and behind us. Maybe expectations have been raised and we have to deal with that. Fans want to see us winning.

“Saturday wasn’t one for us, but we move on.’’

Pools drew 0-0 at the Racecourse Ground last season and Wrexham will tonight include Brad Walker, the former Pools midfielder who is on loan from Crewe and scored a penalty at the weekend in a draw at Chesterfield. Walker has impressed in a midfield holding role of late.

“Wrexham are up there in the table, but we went to Orient and got a result without playing that well – now we aim to go to Wrexham and do the same in terms of a result,’’ added Davies.

“We have the same tactics, we don’t change things at home and away, but on Saturday we were sucker punched when we were looking for a third goal. We can’t pick the bones out of it too much and now we go there and be as solid as we can be.

“We have some young lads in the group, I’ve been in teams where we have lost five, six, seven on the bounce – and I’ve been in teams when we have won the same amount. We have only lost three times in 17 games, so we can’t’ be too disappointed and we go again. Let’s go to Wrexham positive and not with our heads down.’’
