MIDDLEHAM Maestro Mark Johnston has had an unforgettable year after breaking the record for training the most British winners.

And one of his best-loved horses is again honoured at Redcar on Monday with the renewal of the EBF Double Trigger Novice Stakes for staying two-year-olds.

Flashy chestnut Double Trigger won at 14-1 on his debut at Redcar in 1993 before going on to win 12 group races.

Johnston had seven runners entered at the four-day stage but leaves Mister Chiang as his sole contender, with Joe Fanning taking the ride. Second at Goodwood a few days ago, Mister Chiang looks poised to be a poignant winner.

Redcar’s penultimate meeting is another eight-race card, starting at 12.05pm with the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes. Tom Dascombe’s Finoah ran a cracker to be fifth in Redcar’s valuable Racing UK Two-Year-Old Trophy and Richard Kingscote again comes up for the ride.

However, Michael Dods’ Pendleton showed real promise on his debut at Ayr despite being slowly away. The colt, running in the colours of sprint queen Mabs Cross, was doing his best work at the finish and is taken to go one better.

Mick Channon sends Valentino Sunrise on the long journey from Berkshire for the Best Flat Races Live On Racing UK Nursery. The gelding stayed on well to win on heavy over a furlong less at Haydock last time and victorious rider Nicola Currie is again in the saddle.

Another long-traveller, Vincent’s Forever, who makes the trip from Herefordshire, looks strong in the Racing UK’s Biggest Ever Flat Season Selling Stakes. Ed de Giles’ gelding has been running in handicaps and drops in class.

Richard Fahey’s grey filly Amazing Michele was eased close home when winning over 1m 4f at Newcastle last time and will be fancied to follow up in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap over an extra two furlongs. Patrick Mather keeps the ride.

Hambleton handler Kevin Ryan’s filly Kynance was taken down to Kempton last time, running a solid race in second. With Finley Marsh claiming a useful three pounds, she can take the Watch Racing UK In HD Maiden Stakes.

The eight-race card is completed by the Racing UK Profits Returned To Racing Apprentice Handicap splitting into two divisions. In division one, Ruth Carr’s Vallarta will be a strong fancy after making all at Catterick last time out.

However, Tim Easterby has led the training ranks at Redcar this season and Yorkshire Pudding ran well when well-backed at the last meeting to be fourth to Kevin Ryan’s newcomer Bielsa. Owners Nick and Lena Rhodes have had a memorable season, thanks mainly to prolific winner Eeh Bah Gum, and could be pudding on the style again.

Paula Muir has had a breakthrough season since joining Michael Dods and Ventura Secret may be decent value in division two. He was prominent for a long way over seven furlongs at Musselburgh last time and drops to six.
