News broke yesterday that dual Arc-winner Enable will be heading to Churchill Downs next month for the Breeders’ Cup Turf and the filly is 4/7 with BetVictor continue her winning run which currently stands at eight. She did have a cracking draw in Paris, however, and I wouldn’t wish to take a short price about John Gosden’s four-year-old just in case she was posted wide around the tight turns.

The rain has arrived at Ascot and Cracksman is now evens with BetVictor for Saturday’s Champion Stakes. His stablemate Roaring Lion could still take him on over 10f at the weekend, but Gosden also has the option of dropping his three-year-old back in trip to a mile for the QEII.

Roaring Lion is 9/2 for the Champion Stakes with BetVictor but 3/1 joint favourite for the QEII which suggests that punters believe Gosden will keep his stablemates apart at the weekend.

Today’s Bobby Renton Handicap Chase is the highlight at Wetherby and all five runners hold realistic claims.

Former Cheltenham Bumper winner Ballyandy (3.45) has an excellent record fresh and is 7lbs lower over fences than over timber. The selection has not run on ground as fast as today’s (good) since the Festival Bumper, but connections look to have found an ideal starting point after what was an underwhelming but lightly-raced first season over fences.

Monbeg Theatre has a record of 211 under Page Fuller and he must go close to his personal hat-trick having won a valuable prize at Haydock from just a 5lbs lower mark when last seen in May. I hope Ruth Jefferson has Dubai Angel (4.20) fully tuned up for his seasonal reappearance and he gets the each way vote.

The seven-year-old has run well fresh in the past and he steps up to three miles for the first time this afternoon. The selection didn’t find much off the bridle at Perth when last seen back in the spring, but there is plenty of stamina on the dam’s side.

The ground is on the soft side of good for Nottingham’s card and I hope to see Elasia (4.05) make it four wins from her last five starts in the valuable 1m 6f handicap.

The selection is only 2lbs higher for winning at Goodwood by a neck last time over this trip on similar ground. This daughter of Nathaniel could make up into something like an Ebor horse next term.

If Poppy Bridgewater can get Moans Cross (5.10) to settle better than he did at Lingfield last time, then I feel he would have a very good chance to break his duck for her father David in the opener at Newcastle.

The gelding is 1lb lower today, is drawn next to the rail in stall one and I hope he can be put to sleep for the first half of the race. If more amenable to restraint he would have a leading chance.

Cross My Mind (5.45) is unbeaten in two starts at Gosforth Park and looked good value for his 7lbs rise when scoring by four lengths over course and distance last month. Fillies can improve at a great rate of knots at this time of the year, she is well drawn in stall two and can make it three wins from her last four starts.

There is a listed race for fillies and mares at Bath and Willie Mullins brings over True Self and this lightly-raced mare turned a modest Cork maiden into a procession last time. She must go close but Mistress Quickly (2.55) has been knocking on the door of late and has her optimum underfoot conditions (good to soft) this afternoon.

The Roger Charlton yard are in top form after a moderate season and Sister Celine (5.05) is given another chance to fulfil the promise of her early season form. She has disappointed in two starts of late, but the yard were out of sorts at the time and she has the form to go very close in this grade.

Anakeed (5.35) drops back in trip but as well supported on her handicap debut when third over 1m 2f at Chelmsford last time. Jim Crowley keeps the ride on this daughter of Dubawi who should be suited by the ease in the ground.
