KELVIN Langmead celebrated his new contract by earning a point for Harrogate with a goal five minutes into stoppage time that sealed a 2-2 draw with Dover.

The defender was one of three Town players to sign a new deal on the eve of the game, but it looked like being a deflating afternoon for the high-flying home side as Inih Effiong's second-half double put lowly Dover in front.

But Langmead's second goal of the season earned Simon Weaver's men a point and denied the visitors what would have been just a second win this term.

It seemed to be a case of business as usual at the CNG Stadium when Aaron Williams scored from a Callum Howe knockdown for his third goal in three.

Effiong then took over, swivelling in the box and finishing a minute into the second half.

He then completed the turnaround when he showed good feet before unleashing an effort that was deflected in 24 minutes from time.

But Langmead met a late cross from Liam Kitching to score, before Anthony Jeffrey saw red for Dover.

HARROGATE: Belshaw; Falkingham, Burrell, Kitching, Howe, Emmett, Thomson, Langmead, Muldoon (Beck 61), Leesley, Williams (Thewlis 67). Subs (not used): Cracknell, Agnew, Kerry.

GATESHEAD climbed above Hartlepool and into the National League play-off zone by winning a fourth away game in a row at Havant & Waterlooville.

Steve Watson's visitors rode their luck early on when Nicke Kabamba picked out his strike partner Alfie Pavey to judder the upright.

Despite their bad sequence, Lee Bradbury's men remained on the front foot and Will Wood hit just wide with a long-range effort.

The Heed turned the tables after the break and Steve Rigg hit the post from Mellish's pass.

Rigg went one better seconds later, heading in at the back post to put his side one up just short of the hour.

The Hawks remain rooted in the relegation zone after this latest reverse.

Gateshead’s Jon Mellish, who had been on duty with England C this earlier in the week, is impressed with the away run. He said: “I guess we just play without fear and get teams at the right time.

“Obviously the opposition set up a bit differently when they’re at home which can work in our favour. But we’re not scared to get on the ball, play our football and continue to prove people wrong.”

GATESHEAD: Pears; Hunter, Kerr, Barrow, White (Forbes 82), O’Donnell (Devitt 57), Williamson, Mellish, Olley, Rigg, Boden. Subs (not used): Foden, Tinkler, Molyneux.

YORK City boss Sam Collins admitted he has rejected approaches from clubs for Tom Allan after using the defender for the first time in his nine-game tenure.

Allan was introduced as a 32nd-minute substitute during the Minstermen’s 2-1 victory at Southport, despite not even making the seven-strong bench for the previous weekend’s FA Cup win against St Ives Town.

In fact, the 23-year-old centre back, who netted nine times for Alfreton last term, had only made one of Collins’ last seven matchday squads, prior to the Merseyside trip.

He shored up a City defence side that had fallen behind to an eighth-minute Dion Charles penalty, as the team switched from a back three to a four-man defence and subsequently claimed maximum points following Jordan Burrow and Simon Heslop efforts.

Collins said: “He was outstanding and it’s really difficult for defenders to come into games. They’ve got to get used to the speed of the game and we weren’t playing very well either when he came on.

“He’s had to bide his time and we’ve had quite a bit of interest in him from clubs, but I think there’s a player in there, because he’s still young, he’s 6ft 5in, has good pace and is left-sided, so what I’ve told him is that I will batter him in terms of defensive work, as I think I can turn him into a player.”

Heslop’s 84th-minute winning goal, meanwhile, was the kind of spectacular strike that Collins declared is his trademark in training.

“It was an absolute wonderstrike and I wanted to run on the pitch to celebrate with him,” the City boss smiled. “He does that in training time and time again and, after hitting the post last week, he said before this game that he fancied himself to score in this match.”

YORK: Bartlett; Law, Bencherif, Newton; Dyer (Parkin 68), Heslop, Penn, Harris, Ferguson (Allan 32); Wright (Langstaff 54), Burrow. Subs (not used): Moke, Whitley.
