HARROGATE returned to winning ways as they fought back to beat Boreham Wood 4-2 at Meadow Park.

After two games without a victory - or a goal - the visitors fell behind when Chesterfield loanee Gozie Ugwu nodded home.

But Harrogate levelled eight minutes later when George Thomson headed a cross from Joe Leesley back across goal and past the keeper.

The Yorkshire side then took control with two quickfire goals at the start of the second half.

Wood goalkeeper Ryan Huddart's clearance hit advancing forward Aaron Williams in the back and flew into the net, and two minutes later Leesley's cross hit Femi Ilesanmi on the knee and crossed the line.

Ugwu reduced the deficit with a 30-yard screamer, but Jack Emmett wrapped up the points for Harrogate when he curled in a fine long-range effort.

Harrogate: Belshaw; Burrell, Howe, Kerry (Emmett 38), Kitching, Langmead, Falingham, Thomson (agnew 90), Leesley, Muldoon (Beck 70), Williams. Subs (not used): Knowles, Cracknell.

JOSH Hare's second-half strike proved the difference as Eastleigh beat Gateshead 1-0 at the International Stadium.

Eastleigh had the first sightings of goal in the game and Gateshead goalkeeper Aynsley Pears was called into action twice in the opening 20 minutes, first blocking Chris Zebroski's shot, and then denying Cavanagh Miley's header.

The game came to life after the break and Robbie Tinkler hit the woodwork twice for Gateshead in as many minutes.

His first effort from 25 yards beat goalkeeper Max Stryjek, but the ball cannoned back off the crossbar, and Tinkler had Stryjek worried once more when his shot hit the post.

But for all Gateshead's pressure, it was Eastleigh who took the lead thanks to Hare's low driven strike from distance which went in off the left-hand post.

The Spitfires held onto the lead for their third consecutive win, while the Heed dropped outside of the play-off places to ninth.

Gateshead: Pears; Tinkler, Kerr, Williamson, Mellish, Barrow (Salkeld 78), White, Olley, Molyneux, Rigg, Boden. Subs (not used): Foden, Hunter, Forbes, Devitt.

YORK City caretaker manager Sam Collins believes 21-year-old forward Macaulay Langstaff is setting an example for more senior pros after scoring his fourth goal of the season.

Langstaff netted City’s first goal – a 16th-minute equaliser – during the Minstermen’s 4-2 National League North home victory over Guiseley.

His effort cancelled out Kingsley James’ penalty for the visitors and the former Gateshead forward was then joined on the scoresheet by Jordan Burrow and Sean Newton, who bagged a brace.

Sub Scott Smith went on to grab a consolation for the Leeds side, by which time Langstaff had made way for 70th-minute substitute Wes York. Collins was full of praise for the Northern League graduate’s work ethic.

He told the York Press: “He’s a brilliant kid with a brilliant attitude, who just wants to get better and better.

“He’s full of pace and endeavour and he’ll chase everything on the pitch. Although he’s a younger player, I think the older lads then follow his example too.”

Following the 5-0 FA Cup third qualifying round victory over Ashton Athletic, Collins has now masterminded the Minstermen’s first back-to-back victories since mid-January, although there were still elements of the performance against Guiseley that he felt could have been improved upon.

York: Bartlett; Law, Tait, Newton; Griffiths (Bencherif 70), Heslop, Harris, Moke (Penn 77), Ferguson; Burrow, Langstaff (York 70). Subs (not used): Wright, Parkin.
