How did the players fare in England's 1-0 win over Switzerland?
ENGLAND (3-5-2):
5 Butland: Made a couple of important saves, but was a bag of nerves in the opening stages as his distribution let him down
7 Walker: Continues to look at home as part of a back three and delivered the cross for Rashford’s winner
5 Tarkowski: His hesitancy almost cost England a goal as Shaqiri hit the woodwork and he looked nervous early on
7 Maguire: It was always going to be a big night for the Leicester defender, and he produced a decent enough display
6 Alexander-Arnold: Made a couple of errors in the first half, but stuck to his task and should have a bright international future
4 Delph: Hasn’t kicked a ball for Manchester City this season, and doesn’t look international class on this evidence
5 Dier: Failed to exert any kind of authority as Switzerland dominated the first half and is now well behind Henderson in the pecking order
4 Loftus-Cheek: Was supposed to be linking England’s midfield with the front two, but barely had a touch before he was taken off
8 ROSE: England’s best attacking outlet all night as he surged up and down the left flank – delivered a number of dangerous crosses
8 Rashford: Made it two goals in two games with a clinical finish and has been England’s best player over the course of both of this week’s matches
4 Welbeck: Couldn’t get into the game as he made a rare start and looked short of match sharpness
Subs:
5 Lingard (for Loftus-Cheek, 61): Displayed plenty of energy after coming off the bench, but wasn’t involved in any key moments
6 Stones (for Tarkowski, 61): Made a vital sliding block to prevent Shaqiri scoring what would almost certainly have been a Swiss equaliser
5 Kane (for Welbeck, 61): Didn’t have any chances to add to his international tally in the final half-hour
6 Henderson (for Delph, 68): Helped ensure England were relatively untroubled as they closed out their win
Trippier (for Alexander-Arnold, 78)
Chilwell (for Rose, 78)
(not used): Pickford (gk), McCarthy (gk), Bettinelli (gk), Gomez, Gray.
SWITZERLAND (3-5-1-1):
Sommer 6; Schar 6, Djourou 6, Akanji 6 (Mehmedi 46, 5); Lichtsteiner 5, Zakaria 5 (Fernandes 67, 5), XHAKA 7, Freuler 6 (Zuber 67, 6), Rodriguez 7 (Moubandje 46, 5); Shaqiri 7 (Seferovic 80); Gavranovic 6 (Ajeti 67, 5).
Subs (not used): Mvogo (gk), Kobel (gk), Klose, Mbabu, Embolo, Sow.
Man Of The Match: DANNY ROSE – The defender might not be flavour of the month at Tottenham, but he looks England’s best bet in the left wing-back berth.
