How did the players fare in Newcastle's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City?
MAN CITY (4-4-2):
Ederson 6; Walker 8, Stones 7, Laporte 7, Mendy 7; Mahrez 5 (Gundogan 75), D SILVA 8 (Kompany 89), Fernandinho 6, Sterling 8; Aguero 6, Jesus 6 (B Silva 58, 5).
Subs (not used): Muric (gk), Otamendi, Delph, Foden.
NEWCASTLE (5-4-1):
8 DUBRAVKA: Kept Newcastle in the game with a remarkable second-half triple save, and had no chance at all with either of the goals
6 Yedlin: Fired his side level with his first goal since he scored at Derby in September 2016 but showed Sterling inside for City’s opener
6 Clark: Did reasonably well up against Aguero and made a number of important clearances from the 18-yard box
6 Lascelles: Lazily conceded possession to set up Sterling’s opening goal, but improved markedly from that point on
6 Fernandez: Has looked reasonably solid on his two leagues starts, although his distribution isn’t always the best
7 Dummett: Just about shaded his personal battle with Mahrez, regularly forcing the winger to cut inside him
5 Kenedy: Continues to look some way short of his best, and was forced off at the start of the second half after complaining of headaches
4 Ki: Gave the ball away repeatedly in the first half, and doesn’t have the range of passing that Shelvey would have offered
5 Diame: Covered plenty of ground at the base of midfield, but wasn’t able to prevent David Silva repeatedly breaking into the box
5 Perez: His effort and work rate couldn’t be faulted, but he rarely looked like making an impression in the final third
7 Rondon: Held the ball up well despite limited attacking support and produced a superb slide-rule pass to set up Yedlin’s goal
Subs:
5 Atsu (for Kenedy, 54): Didn’t have much of an impact as he was introduced on the right of Newcastle’s midfield
Joselu (for Rondon, 73)
Murphy (for Clark, 80)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Sterry, Longstaff, Muto.
Man Of The Match: DAVID SILVA – The Spaniard has assumed the mantle of City’s creator-in-chief in the absence of the injured Kevin de Bruyne.
