SAM COLLINS’ hopes of getting York City’s managerial job on a permanent basis received a major boost as he oversaw a 2-0 home win over Blyth Spartans.

Collins’ substitutions made the difference at Bootham Crescent, with Jon Parkin and Adriano Moke both finding the net after coming off the bench.

An eventful afternoon saw Blyth’s Kieran Green and York midfielder Russell Penn both dismissed in the first half.

Green saw red first, with referee Ben Speedie issuing a straight red card after the Blyth player launched into an ugly challenge on Dave Ferguson.

However, York were also reduced to ten men seven minutes before the interval when Penn picked up a second booking for a foul on Lewis Horner.

Chances were at a premium for most of the game, but York made a breakthrough with ten minutes left when Parkin converted from the penalty spot after Connor Oliver was adjudged to have handled Ferguson’s cross.

Moke sealed things in the final minute, racing on to a long ball down the middle before lofting a shot over Blyth goalkeeper Peter Jameson.

York: Bartlett, Griffiths, Tait, Bencherif, Ferguson, Penn, Law, Heslop, York (Parkin 69), Langstaff (Burrow 85), Wright (Moke 61).
