HARTLEPOOL UNITED made it three wins from three to see off Chesterfield.

Pools were under long ball pressure from start to finish, but stood up to the physical test and came out on top.

Nicky Featherstone scored the only goal, netting low from 20 yards for his second goal in as many home games.

He was teed up thanks to some astute build up play by Niko Muir and Luke James, the latter picking out the midfielder to sweep in.

Michael Woods should have made it two minutes later. Muir rolled him in and the midfielder burst into the area, but under pressure from the chasing defenders, he rolled his finish wide of the post.

Then Mark Kitching went close with a far post header as Pools kept the pressure on the visitors, who included former Pools defender Michael Nelson in their line-up.

Scott Loach made two important saves in the first-half and some intense and committed defending from Magnay and Peter Kioso kept out the visitors – who have now lost four in a row after winning their first three games of the season.

Nelson almost poked the ball past his own keeper in the second-half and Pools were tireless and committed in their approach.

They saw it out with some ease and their efforts were recognised by the crowd at the Super 6 Stadium.
