MIDDLESBROUGH have made a breakthrough in their attempt to strengthen the squad and lured Mo Besic back to the club.

The Everton midfielder has joined on loan for the remainder of the season, returning to the Riverside having had a spell on loan last season, making 15 appearances.

The 25-year-old was at Rockliffe Park today to complete the move.

He was close to completing a permanent transfer before the deadline earlier this month, but Boro have instead brought Besic back on loan.

However, Tony Pulis’ pursuit of Yannick Bolasie looks likely to end in failure with the Everton winger set to join Aston Villa on loan.

A statement published on mfc.co.uk read: "The club are delighted to confirm the signing of Bosnia international Mo Besic from Everton on a season-long loan.

"Tony Pulis has made no secret of his admiration for the player and is delighted to secure his signature for the duration of the current season."
