Newcastle, after an opening day defeat, next go to newly-promoted Cardiff. The Magpies are 17/10 (from 19/10) with BetVictor at the Cardiff City Stadium with the Bluebirds 19/10 and the draw at 11/5. Neil Warnock’s side showed little quality when going down 2-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday although they are likely to be a different proposition in south Wales.

The Bluebirds are 4/7 at BetVictor to be relegated and just 7/4 to finish the season bottom of the table. Rafa Benitez’s side have been eased from 2s to 9/4 to end the campaign in the top half of the table.

Joselu’s header has given him the lead in the race to be the club’s top PL goalscorer but in a fascinating market BetVictor now bet:

Solomon Rondon 9/4; Ayoze Perez 5/2; Muto 4/1; Joselu 10/1; 12s Bar

Boro sit top of the Championship with seven points from three games although the 100 per cent starts of Leeds, Villa and Swansea have caught the eye.

Tony Pulis was disappointed to have missed out on Everton’s Mo Besic on transfer deadline day, but he is likely to move to the Riverside on loan later this month. Boro travel to Ashton Gate at the weekend and are 7/4 with the hosts 13/8 and the draw at 23/10.

Boro meet Notts County in the League Cup on Tuesday night and they are 4/11 to reach the Second Round in 90 minutes and 100/1 to lift the Trophy at Wembley.

Sunderland entertain Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup on Thursday and the Black Cats are 7/5 with the Owls 15/8 and the draw at 12/5. Sunderland remain 11/4 for the League One title after a point at Luton, with Barnsley 9/2 second favourites - one of five clubs with a 100 per cent record.

The Black Cats play Scunthorpe at the Stadium Of Light on Sunday and are 5/6, with the Iron 7/2 and the draw at 5/2.

Hartlepool travel to Braintree on Tuesday night looking for their first win in the National League. Their winless hosts are marginal favourites at 31/20 with Pools 17/10 and the draw at 12/5. Pools are 10/1 to be relegated and out to 9/2 for a top seven position – they badly need to pick up a win after their 1-0 home reverse to Ebbsfleet at the weekend.
