DI Clark from Bedale is one step closer to a round with a European Tour star after she progressed through a regional final of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dream Trophy, run in partnership with England Golf.

The Yorkshire golfer kept alive her hopes of a place in the pro-am at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports when she qualified at North Richmond Golf Club.

Now she’ll head to England Golf Week in August at Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire, for the national finals of the Chase Your Dream Trophy. The top players there will play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge and the winning team will make a date for the British Masters.

Clark, who scored a net 75 in qualifying on the Yorkshire course, only lives 15 miles away and says her practice round really helped. The 27-handicapper said: “It’s a great course and getting out there before the regional round really helped me settle into my round.

“There was a great shot on the 17th hole that I don’t think I could repeat again. I’m really chuffed to get through and can’t wait to see what happens next.

“I’d just love a round with Beef – he’s a real character. This tournament is great for people who love sport and I cannot wait for the next round!”

Bedale’s Junior Section carried out a 72-hole Longest Day challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Oliver Hay, Matthew Driscoll, Jake Hughes, Ben Brown, Sam Elsworth and Sam Hay played their parts along with support acts Leigh Hay and Sal Circo. The event was well supported with donations totalling over £840.

MATFEN HALL Hotel, Golf and Spa has tempted Northumberland golfer Karl Hepple back to the North-East.

Having spent the past 12 months working in business development across six Macdonald resorts in Southern Spain and Portugal, Hepple has taken up the position of assistant golf manager at the Northumberland course.

Karl, who turned professional five years ago at the age of 21, will be working alongside Golf Manager Nicola Hawes, who became the first female golf manager in the North-East when she took up the post in February this year.

Hepple said: “I am delighted to be appointed at one of best golf facilities in the North-East. The club has huge potential to grow on it’s already strong foundation. I am looking forward to growing the golf business here.”

Before leaving the region for Spain and Portugal, Karl spent nine years playing and working at North East golf courses including stints as Golf Operations Assistant at Longhirst and Slaley and three years as Golf Operations Manager at Linden Hall.
