It’s been a very interesting week, beginning with my third place finish on Final Nudge in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow last Saturday.

I wasn’t surprised to see him tipped by Newsboy in the Daily Mirror as he had some good form going into the race on similar testing ground.

He gave me a fantastic ride, and approaching the fourth last I thought we might be in with a chance. He struggled a bit from then on, though, but ran on gamely.

His trainer David Dennis is to give him an entry in the Grand National and it will be interesting to see what the handicapper makes of his chances when the weights for the race are announced early next month.

It was a particularly tough renewal of the Welsh National with only seven of the 20 runners getting home and you have to congratulate James Bowen who became to the youngest jockey to win the race at 16 on Raz De Maree.

I’ve got a busy day tomorrow with four rides at Kempton, kicking off with Josses Hill for Nicky Henderson in the two and a half mile chase. He had a nice run round Taunton recently, finishing second to stablemate Top Notch.

He’s up against some smart performers, but has won twice over the course I hope he’ll run very well.

I ride Wishfull Dreaming in the afternoon’s feature race, the 32 Red Lanzarote Hurdle. He’s having his first run for Olly Murphy and has a good record.

This will be my first ride for Olly. His horses are running very well and I’m looking forward to getting on Wishfull Dreaming.

I also can’t wait to get back on Fountain’s Windfall in the three miles handicap chase. He’s a very talented horse, but has been a bit unlucky since I won on him at Southwell.

He had every chance at Newbury when he fell three out and was in the lead and going very strongly when he came down at the fourth last at Kempton on Boxing Day and you never know what might have been.

With a clear round, he should have a great chance.

My final ride of the day is on Don Bersy in the two miles handicap hurdle the last race on the card. He was a very good juvenile last year when I won on him.

He’s had a couple of races this season and should be fresh after a short break. This will be his first run at Kempton, but if he can reproduce his juvenile form he should be competitive.
