DWIGHT GAYLE is currently undergoing a medical after flying to the North-East to complete a £10m move to Newcastle United.

The Crystal Palace striker is understood to have agreed the personal terms of his switch to the Magpies, but the deal will not be formally confirmed until the results of his medical have been rubber-stamped.

That could take until Thursday morning, but Newcastle officials are confident the 25-year-old will become the club's second summer signing following the arrival of goalkeeper Matz Sels earlier on Wednesday.

Gayle scored 15 goals in 63 appearances for Palace, with his final two strikes for the Eagles coming in the 2-1 win over Stoke on the penultimate weekend of the season that guaranteed the South London club's Premier League survival.

Gayle's transfer could be quickly followed by the £12m arrival of Matt Ritchie, with senior sources expressing growing confidence that the Bournemouth winger will agree to a move to St James' Park.

There have been talks between Newcastle officials and their counterparts at the Vitality Stadium, and Rafael Benitez is keen to complete a deal for Ritchie before agreeing to the departure of Andros Townsend.

Townsend is expected to move to Crystal Palace, with the Eagles keen to trigger the £10.5m release clause in the England international's contract.

Sels, who signed a five-year deal, completed a £4.5m move from Gent and is expected to start the season as Newcastle's new number one.
