I HAVE just returned from a holiday in the Irish Republic a country which appears to be in a state of economic and political turmoil.
One of the political questions which needs to be resolved is that the office of President is coming up for renewal when the present incumbent retires in the near future.
Whilst many names are being put forward to fill the post the choice of one respected newspaper columnist was Niall Quinn, the Sunderland FC chairman.
Amongst the qualities Mr Quinn was said to possess was the ‘’ability to make peace with Roy Keane’’ seemingly not the easiest job in the world.
I wonder if Mr Quinn is aware that he could be a candidate for such a high office and indeed what would his reaction be if it were to be offered to him?
Martin Birtle, Billingham.
