ALTHOUGH my letter (HAS, Apr 24) may have appeared to be somewhat naive, I was, in fact, hoping to elicit official public confirmation that the people of County Durham were to have the benefit (and costs) of an additional 63 county councillors for the next year, even though all district councillors will still be in office.
Can the additional cost to the council tax payer of this situation be justified? I do not believe so.
It could also have an influence on the gains and losses columns nationally of the various parties which will make interesting reading tomorrow.
