I READ with interest about Darlington council’s bid to combat obesity and improve the nation’s health by reducing the number of takeaways in the area (Echo, Mar 12).

Darlington stands at number four in the whole of England for its 148.6 takeaways per 100,000 of population.

I would like to throw Willington into the contest as we have at any one time around 15 hot food outlets in our small town.

In the 2011 census we had a population of 5,749, so allowing for new arrivals say we have 7,00 people now that would give us a rating of well over 200 per 100,000 of population.

Willington...top of the league at last!
