MALCOLM DUNSTONE of Darlington commented about “Football fouls” (HAS, Jan 1) and I am convinced that the football yellow card should be just like the Rugby Union yellow card which sends the player to the sin bin for ten minutes to cool down. If he or she gets a second yellow, they are off!
If football did the same thing, it would stop the silly players taking off their shirts and assaulting corner flags when they scored.
Managers would not be very happy as sometimes they would maybe down to nine men!
Football players could learn a lot about on-pitch discipline from Rugby Union players who are renowned for treating referees with the utmost respect.
Rugby referees booze with the players after the game and most of them start reffing when they stop playing. They are the salt of the earth and highly regarded by all players.
