I AGREE with Thomas Ball 100 per cent that elderly drivers should have to re-take their tests (HAS, Jan 5). If you just take a minute and observe some elderly people doing manoeuvres, such as parking and other hazards on the roads, well need I say more.
I do not know if Mr Ball is aware or not, but Durham County Council does run a scheme, for a nominal fee, whereby you can request an assessment by a qualified driving instructor, who will furnish you with a written report on the standard of your driving. I have been taking advantage of this scheme for the past two or three years and find it very beneficial. I’m 80 years old this year.
