I AM probably going to antagonise some Sunderland fans and for that I apologise, but I do not like the nickname “Black Cats” for their football club.
I know it has been their nickname since 1997 but when I hear a nickname I like it to be instantly identifiable with a club.
I bet the majority of football fans not from the North-East would not immediately identify Sunderland by its nickname.
My choice would be “the Wearsiders”, but there again I am waiting to be shouted down.
