HAVING read the article “Preparing for students to head home for Christmas” (Echo, Dec 2), I feel that our regional health authority must now keep a strict record of Covid figures in the North-East counties while students are at home.
These should then be compared to the figures recorded while students were here.
I believe we will then see that bringing students back following the summer vacation was yet another huge Boris blunder and it was largely responsible for the large increase in infection and fatality figures in County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Teesside.
It would also prove that the populist band “Boris and the Bunglers” lied when they said that bringing students back was not as a result of university pressure to get their hands on their fees etc.
Many thanks to The Northern Echo editor and the reporting team for your campaigning work.
Derek Jago, Bishop Auckland.
