THE Government has announced a new green set of policies (Echo, Nov 18), but does its policy on green energy work?

We are all banned from buying new petrol and diesel cars from 2030. How will the British Government finance its activities without the revenue from diesel and petrol sales?

Whitehall promotes electric vehicles for us individuals, but the Government’s public transport strategy is moving towards hydrogen-powered buses. Where are they buying the hydrogen from? Making hydrogen from North Sea gas creates volatile greenhouse gas. Wouldn’t making hydrogen from ammonia be a different matter? Do we need to source ammonia from our 16 remaining colonies and other countries and then use this to generate hydrogen here in the UK?

Could hydrogen then be used to power our cars and our public transport with fewer environmental consequences?

Could new revenue be gathered for the UK government by the sale of hydrogen at filling stations, just as we buy diesel and petrol now?

Does the current proposed Whitehall strategy add up?
