A REPORT (Echo, Nov 3) stated millions of newly hatched male chicks were immediately gassed and “chewed up” – only egg laying females being any use.

Where then does the chicken in tinned products come from and also complete chickens from supermarkets etc?

I was surprised to read on tins bought from UK stores that the chicken content came from Brazil and Thailand.

Is there any reason why male chicks are not allowed to develop and then be eaten? Is it all about money?

What happens to the egg-laying hens when they are “past it” – and by then probably too tough to eat?
