I WOULD like to comment on the latest excuse from the Tory MP for Bishop Auckland, Dehenna Davison, about why she voted for a second lockdown (Echo, Nov 5).

She says we have to act now to defeat the virus – if we hadn’t, local families would have suffered this winter.

Let me tell her thanks to ten years of Tory austerity, local families will suffer this winter and believe me, for a very long time.

Yes, more food banks, no free school meals, universal credit, no jobs, run down NHS, mental health issues, homeless people, can’t see doctors for weeks and many more.

Believe me, it will not be the virus that destroys our great country – it will be this Tory government. But yet again, sometimes people get what they deserve.

To conclude, I wonder what Dehenna’s excuse is when Boris stops our free Labour bus pass and heating allowance.
