NO ONE loves fish and chips more than me.
Cooked properly – nothing nicer. Cooked improperly – yuk!
Yet now I rarely eat fish – just the odd tin of sardines. Why?
Because I am fed up with the activities of European factory ships.
These monstrosities excavate the sea-bed, by systematically plundering our fish stocks and killing other sea life.
That’s why I voted for Brexit.
Even if the abuse stops here it will go on elsewhere until the countries responsible recognise their own long-term interests.
Appeals to selfishness never fail. Appeals to conscience always do. Sad but true.
Otherwise it will be the end of fish and chips – and much else.
Tony Kelly, Crook.
