THE ‘red wall’ Tories’ pledge to lobby the Government to avoid further lockdown restrictions in the Tees Valley has been proved to be just more empty words.

Simon Clark (Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland) and Jacob Young (Redcar) are two local MPs who do not believe their constituencies should face any further lockdown restrictions.

Yet, ironically, both MPs recently voted in Parliament to ask their Government to impose tougher curbs and constraints.

There were 42 Tory MPs voted against stricter Covid lockdown measures, yet Simon Clark and Jacob Young were not among them.

A masterclass in hypocrisy from a pair of MPs who have been delivering regular sermons arguing the loss of leisure and hospitality if Covid restrictions are increased.

At least Tees Valley Conservatives Stockton South’s Matt Vickers and Bishop Auckland’s Dehenna Davison had the bottle to stand up and make a decision based on social and economic consequences rather than just blindly towing the Tory party line.
